Population Growth

The line graph shows population growth in less developed countries and more developed countries between 1750 and 2150. Overall, less developed countries’ population increased much more than more developed countries in the past; also it is still growing in the present and it is expected to go up in the future.

The largest change was the dramatic rise in less developed countries from 1950 to 2000 to 6.1 billion. Moreover, the Population Reference Bureau estimates that less developed countries will have a huge population by 2150 of about 10 billion.

On the other hand, more developed countries’ population has increased slightly from 1750 to now. In the future it’s expected to remain the same to 2150 according to the United Nations World Population Prospects, the 1998 Revision, and estimated by the Population Reference Bureau.

In conclusion, there are big differences between more developed and less developed countries in population. Unfortunately, the huge increase is happening in poorer countries.

Economic Expansion Or Environmental Protection

Nowadays, people wonder how we will protect our environment while the economy is still dramatically growing. In this essay, I will show the benefits of the economic growth and the drawbacks of environmental impact; also I will argue about which one should be the first priority.

Economic growth has a lot of advantages for human life but it causes a lot of problems for our environment. First of all, it allows plenty of employment opportunities. As a result, these workers will have a better life for them and their families such as getting a good education for children and securing a safe life for them. Unfortunately, a lot of these jobs are dangerous for their health and life. For example, rural people in poorer countries are forced to work in mines and factories to earn some money. Furthermore, it causes an increase in charity and philanthropy from the richer countries.

On the other hand, many scientists believe that the environmental impact which is caused by economic expansion is a threat to the future of our planet. There is a lot of environmental impact but I will mention the most serious impacts which are global warming, the ozone hole and health problems. First, global warming; melting ice at the north and south poles of the world in turn will raise the sea level which can sink a lot of countries such as Holland and Maldives. Finally, all of these disasters cause serious health problems.

In conclusion, nowadays people encourage the economic growth for a better life. In my opinion, if the economy is still dramatically growing, we will lose our life and world.
